The money, in plain words

How you earn

  • You earn commission on every trip you book. New advisors start at 70% of the commission, and your share can grow each year as your sales grow.
  • Any planning fees you charge your clients go directly to you.
  • Commission is paid after your clients travel, once the supplier pays the agency.
  • There is a $500 annual fee that covers your Sandpiper Vacations email, Tern, agency tools and resources, and admin costs.
  • You work as an independent contractor (1099), so you set your own hours and decide how big you want to grow.

I started as a Disney travel advisor in 2018 and opened Sandpiper Vacations in 2020 because I wanted an agency that felt like family, where every traveler and every advisor could be completely themselves.

Questions people ask before they apply

Do I need travel industry experience?

No. Many of our advisors started with no travel industry background. We provide training on our booking process, our tools and our suppliers, and the team is there to help with your first quotes and bookings.

Is this a job with a salary?

No. Travel advisors with Sandpiper Vacations are independent contractors who earn commission on the trips they book, plus any planning fees they choose to charge. You decide your own schedule and how much you want to grow.

How much time does it take?

That is up to you. Many advisors start part time alongside another job and grow from there. Like any business, the more time you put into finding and caring for clients, the more you can earn.

How and when do I get paid?

Suppliers pay commission to the agency after your clients travel, and we pay out your share. New advisors start at 70% of the commission, and your share can grow each year as your sales grow.

What does the $500 annual fee cover?

It covers your Sandpiper Vacations email address, Tern for your client records, quotes and payments, the other agency tools and resources you use to run your business, and the admin costs of running the agency behind you.

Do I have to sell Disney?

No. We love Disney, but our advisors also plan cruises, all inclusive resorts, Universal, Europe, groups, destination weddings and more. Most advisors focus on the kinds of trips they know and love.

Can I live outside of Ohio?

Yes. Sandpiper Vacations is based in Columbus, Ohio, and our travel advisors work from home all across the United States.
